The Pontine sea-fart stimulated much e-mail, for which many thanks.

12 July 2001

17:10:18
I have been very remiss lately with the updating of my reading list so I have added a few thigns that I have read recently. I should also get some more pictures online. Pity about the day job really.

The Mighty Organ - some nice little pieces here.

14:58:47
The Lizard man : his girlfriend has tattoos of urban legends, including fake kidney removal scars

09:30:59
Mental illness at the root of Jazz - what a load of utter rubbish. People have been improvising as long as there has been music. Rarely have I read such an utter load of codswallop!! Grrrrr.

09:27:53
I read, this morning, about the Pontine sea-fart but the Internet fails me with any more details. Pontus is the ancient name for the Black sea and the sea-fart was an eruption of gas from the sea bed that killed everyone on the surface. I have no idea what the proper name for this phenomenon is so it's hard to locate. It sounds similar to something that was described in Fortean Times a while ago where huge gas bubbles could sink ships because they just destroy any flotation.

Russell Walden - "a voice heralding the emerging purposes of God". Please note that the anointing breaks every yoke. Our Russell claims to be Christian dissident. He comes from three generations of pastors - the poor guy never had a chance.

12:23:07
I used to share a flat with the drummer of this band. (Who is cleverly concealed behind the bass player in the picture)

At Newcastleton I was sitting talking to someone who had a very serious stroke 6 weeks ago and suffered from very high blood pressure. He was sitting eating sausage, bacon and egg all fried. Only in Scotland.

10:09:02
When did the word "next" come to mean, the thing after the following thing? All DJs (OK, not known for their literacy etc.) use "coming next" to mean the item after the next item!! It entirely infuriates me.

I was talking to a friend who is a naval architect about efficiency and scheduling in shipyards. There is some measure which is to do with tons and hours and he was recently at a conference in the USA where the American guy s were really pleased with having a number like 105 for this measure. The Korean value is 8.... Neport News shipyards emplyoys 18000 people! Most shipyards count their staff in hundreds. What do they all do? (Work scheduling says Richard) This is all to do with some US law called the Jones act which basically seems to say that if you are building ships for the navy you can take as long as you want and make as much profit as you want. (I am sure it is more complicated than that)

In amongst other strange stuff, here there is a reference to creamola foam.

14:22:48
Which all makes me think of creamola foam - a vile drink that was made up from a powder in a tin.. Not many links that make sense though.

14:20:37

There is a tune called the Eagle's Whistle, but the idea of Eagle Whistles is decidedly odd (Thanks Tom)

09:23:58
I keep reading the McVeigh was starving himself so that he looked gaunt etc. when they killed him. The weird thing is that the shock horror statistics that they gave about him showed that he was almost the same height and weight as me and I certainly don't look gaunt etc. Perhpas gaunt in the USA is a different concept. (What an odd word gaunt is, just look at it : gaunt, more and more like a spelling mistake)

12:24:03
Poking fun at car freaks. Not much fun though.

09:33:48
Oh, thanks to everyone who mailed me telling me that the Winning the War on Masturbation link was a spoof. It is often hard to tell, but there are lots of links that end up a landover baptist which seems to be pretty conclusive - I must admit that I took it at face value simply a) because it was American and b) I've seen nuttier, more inconsistent things that are real.

09:31:57

Kowloon Walled City (Ryuji Miyamoto took a series of photos of it which is why I found this). Another KWC site. There is an Internet KWC too which has tons of stuff.

12:35:08
"Kobe 1995/After the earthquake" - two photos by Ryuji Miyamoto. (No, I didn't get this from GMTPlus9, though it has probably been linked there ages ago as it is just the sort of thing that appears there) Anyway, the book of his pictures USA must be excellent.

I suppose I'll jump on to the bandwagon and link to the Barnstar Subterfuge

Happy 2nd Birthday GMTPlus9! weblogs do not get better than this.

12:09:12
Litle article about magic mushrrooms in Japan, but not that, look at the two girls in the background of the photograph. Bleached hair, mobile at the ready, orange suntan. Classic

09:59:46
Oh blast and damn, I got the link wrong for Ephotozine yesterday and I sent you all off to Luis Magela's site. I know this because Luiz mailed me this morning to say thanks for all the hits! I had his site in my cut buffer because someone illiterate has been going round posting rude comments about people's sites and signing them with my email address. You should check out Luiz's art work page - there is some good stuff there.

A Wheatstone Bridge Applet - again thanks Ole, who was listening to BBC Radio 4......

10:32:41
The Wheatstone Bridge. What this has to do with American History I don't know since Wheatsone was British and invented the English Concertina which is much more important. (Thanks for the link though Ole)

10:27:48
The Self Mastery Earth Institute. Featuring an extremely dubious photograph of "Mary's Energy". It is quite clearly reflected sunlight, whatever they say about eliminating sun glare. (In fact given that they were pointing due West at 10 AM, I woudl say that it pretty well guarantees that it is reflected sunlight! Notice also that the witnesses, only felt Mary's presence, somehow they didn't see all this light, yet the camera did. Oh, and BTW, while you are still amazed at this divine revelation, why not buy expensive books and videos too...

10:23:48
I'm out of the country on the day of the election here, so I just registered for a postal vote. Not something I have ever done before.

Ephotozine - a new web photo ezine. (Thanks Dad)

09:12:04
Want to be or find yacht crew? Try here. Not a bad idea for a service really. I may of course be falling for spam by mentioning this page, as I had email from them following up on a posting that was made in my name but was not by me. This may well have been entirely bogus, though why someone would want to spam a yacht crew list service is beyond me!

I really like the new version of Lady Marmalade by Christian Aguilera, Pink, Lil' Kim and Maya - infinitely better than the wet version by the All saints, though it still doesn't have the magic of the original La Belle version to me. The video however is awful, a sad attempt to do raunch that fails miserably. It manages to be offensive without having any redemming sexiness. I suppose if you are turned on by complicated underwear you might like it, but to me it's just whores with hearts of gold cliché cheesiness.

1700 Links about Freemasons. Why? Much better to find out about the Secrets of The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society Their Connection to Freemasonry and the New World Order. I just wish this new owrld order would hurry up and get started so that we all know where we stand! Mind you I have no quibble with thetag line "Wake Up America" - it would be a good idea. Oh, check out the Satanic bloodlines too. I see that McDonalds has a satanic connection ("There is no doubt that the McDonald?s Corp. has an inside track with the Illuminati") and Disney (that I can believe). And have a look at the page with this amazing non-sequitur: "A few weeks after the raid, River Phoenix died from a drugoverdose: his body bore no evidence of needle marks". One of the things that I have on this site is a page about the "Paul is Dead" story.Someone just sent me this excellent new adition to the evidence: "First take either the (Sergeant Pepper) album LP cover or CD cover and look for the drum. Notice the letters lonely hearts. Place the edge of a butter knife or mirror across the center of the letters reading HEARTS and it will read "HE ^ DIE" pointing straight up to Paul." It doeas as you can work out for yourself if you think about the word HEARTS in capital letters with Paul standing over the letter A.

Good weekend (apart from sick daughter). Got lots of stuff planted in the garden and double dug one of our deep beds again. There is asparagus showing through and loads of frogs in the pond still. Penny washed some pond plants to take to a friend and about 30 leeches washed off them - it always puzzles me how something like a leech gets into a built pond!
