Is it just me being old and out of touch, but does the idea of sites like Blippy and Swipely where you share with your "friends" what you buy and where just seem really stupid? I am really not interested in what people spend their money on.
Chocolate coated tomatoes - I am actually about to make some chocolate covered olives as an experiment (using chilli chocolate) so I might do some sundried tomatoes at the same time.
Google earth view in maps is odd. A small number of things are rendered in 3D (the toon ground, and a shop that is near it, a couple of churches) and everything else squashed.
Does anyone have any ideas of where I might find someone who registers third level .name domains? I got one from register.com ages ago but they no longer register them and I can't find anywhere else that still does them.
Grapevine 1, and grapevine 2 - Generous application of pancake in version 1, don't you think? 2 is ridiculously good.
Woo, check out the European airspace (see yesterday) - nothing flying North or West of Italy.
"Me and old Obray's had a lot of fun at the square dances. We'd play to two or three in the morning and everybody like it. Or they made us think they did." (But can you identify the source? A wonderful recording)
Nice trick - Gerry Sadowitz does a very fast version of this but with (of course) a particularly NSFW commentary and jokes (It may even be his trick originally)
This is nice (but I have to say that I am a bit of a philistine wrt opera unless they are funny)
RIP Robin Milner - one of my favourite lecturers as an undergrad, so helpful and always pleased if you were interested in the work, but it was all a bit too advanced mathematically for me.
Minor Swing and mandolin - what more can a man ask for? Nicely played too. I muts get myself a solid, though I would like a 5 string I think rather than a 4.
Nice western swing fiddle by Wade Ray at about 16:40 into this (it's in number 2 not number 1)
OK, so you twisted my arm - here's another one I'm pleased at last to see someone playing a "grand bouche" style Macca like the one I have! (well, the copy I have anyway)
And, of course, a Minor Swing - someone needs to tell the camera operator that the rule of three doesn't work for video really. But watch the rhythm player : he's locked into his own world just holding the beat down.
More Zoot - somewhat older this time but actual video and such lovely melodic lines he plays. And the bass solo is a joy
Lovely technique - there is very little actual footage of him playing on youtube just these montage things.
Having been ill all week, today I find I have entirely lost my sense of smell. It's very odd indeed.
Two of us tried to get a small amount funding to start something like this ten years ago or possibly more, but nobody would was interested. *sigh*
Probably apocryphal, but I do like the story that when Casals was asked why he still practiced 3 hours a day at the age of 93 he said "I am starting to see some improvement"
I was reading about Erdos-Bacon numbers on metafilter. I *nearly* have one since I was once filmed by Adam Buxton who has a Bacon number of 2, but I wasn't actually in a film with him so it doesn't count. The thing I was filmed for was a pilot that never got shown but did have someone well known in it (not Buxton, somoen whose name I can't recall), that probably doesn't count either though.
Where I went to scho0l, but it has been converted back into houses now. (compare with this photo)
The house I grew up in, though it had sash windows and a wooden door in those days. And the tree wasn't there....
Was not impressed by the attempt to illuminate the route of Hadrian's wall yesterday. Not well organised. Haven't seen the film of it yet - we should be in it I think.
Grrr. I hate it when people won't sell you what you want to buy! I am trying to get hold of a version of "Green Stamps" by Bob Brookmeyer that I heard on internet radio. You can get it from iTunes USA (DRMed probably) and from amazon USA (MP3) but they don't have the version I want available to the UK. How annoying is that?
If you have an iPhone or touch and don't have TuneinRadio, then let me recommend it - by far and away the best Internet Radio app I have found. A lot cheaper than paying for a special purpose internet radio!
Repo men are coming trailer - watch this just for the cleanroom sequence towards the end : a lovely setup.
There's a local band playing on Tuesday night, they are called Cordoroy Pillow : guaranteed to make an impression.....
Anyone come across any code that takes a time and turns it into "5 o'clock" or "half past seven"? Clearly I could write it but I am too lazy. Haven't hit on a search that brings up anything yet though. (someone posted a link to nice bit of code in the comments but also included spam so I deleted it - if anyone wants the address for the code I can pass it on)
I just realised that I hadn't seen any posts at Mr Anchovy for ages and discovered he had moved to a new place. Oh well I am caught up now.
I just found, on my desktop, a PDF of a paper called "Multivariate analysis of beer foam stand". I have no idea where it came from.......
Just watched Chasing Ghosts - interesting though I don't actually recall ever playing a game in a video arcade myself.
Oh good grief why can't the BBC stop summarising and repeating things for the Winter Olympics. Just show the sport and stop with all the nonsense.
This word game is clever but much too fiddly with a mouse. Would work much better with touch actually.
Lovely playing of Minor Swing (You might have to sign up for TFTV for this but it seems to be free and it is worth it just for this I reckon)
Drunk as a skunk and it is still minor swing. I don't this guy at all (Gary any clues??) he seems rather good.
Good lord, I just saw a photo of Daltry at the Superbowl. What on earth does he think he looks like?
Landfill prize (and also a classic example of a site implemented in Flash that could have been done with straight HTML)
Cadillac Sky on the bluegrass radio - simply amazing. Not heard of them of before I don't think. Sadly I note that their web page suggests that they have gone "from a critically-acclaimed Bluegrass band to a band without boundaries". That sort of thing is so often the kiss of death, but they may of course have become even better.
What a boon 3G and the iPhone (or similar) is : nothing on the wireless coming home so I just listened to Steel Radio on the net. No dropouts or buffering or anything. Perfect. Now I am listening to a bluegrass internet station off my iPod Tuch plugged into my stereo. Now all I need is a guarantee that they will only play records I like.....
Tired already of people ranting about how bad the iPad is - any expectations they had were entirely their own invention. Oh, and of people making tampon jokes - nobody ever made that joke about NotePad so why make it about this?
Turn off JavaScript and visit the holy land experience - there are all kind of half finished things and lorem ipsums on it. If you go with it turned on you get all kinds of crap that you really don't want to be bothered with at all.
We just got a xmas card from some friends in Canada. On the front there is a stamp saying "Missent to Guyana" : not some improvised stamp either but one that was clearly made for the sole purpose of marking mail in this way.....
Courtesy of the newly retired Len (too much time on his hands!), someone's "favourite christian thrillers" - there don't seem to be a lot of different story lines do there?
I just read a reference to someone who is a "writer of Christian thrillers". No, I have no idea either.
