not entirely convinced it is a genuine video - looks a little too synthetic, and the guy shouting "cut" at the end is odd. pretty though

Nobody shouts cut - the voice at the end says something "whoa" or some other expression of surprise. No, I think that is definitely real

Sid told me they use gas jets to break the arc sometimes. So you blow out a million-amp candle...<br /> <br /> And apparently some of the enclosed switches arc inside their nasty PCB stuff, 'underwater'

It is genuine - they put switchgear through its paces at Reyrolles next to where I live - we often hear the explosions when it fails!<br /> <br /> The "nasty PCB stuff" they use to quench the spark is either SF6 (Sulphur Hexafluoride) or oil - depends on the voltage being used.
