We made our xmas cake tonight. Why is it, I wonder, that products such as glace cherries or candied peel always seem to "expire" a couple of months before the following xmas?
Doesn't a traditional British Xmas cake contain all sorts of goose lard and other animal fats?

Don;t be silly. It's a cake!!! Mostly dried fruit. And brandy. A small amount of flour, some eggs, and did mention the brandy?<br /> <br /> You are thinking of xmas pudding which is traditionally made with suet, but you can of course use vegetable suet just as well. Our xmas pudding is as good as xmas cake. Probably make that next weekend.
