What I want to be able to do with iTunes is for it to do the shuffle thing for my iPod - I have more music than will fit and I want it to make a random choice and surprise me. All it does is pick play lists that I think will like rather than a selection of songs. I suspect it probably isn't hard to write a program that takes the iTunes library and picks some random songs, writes them into a known playlist that you can then sync, but I don't know if I can be bothered. Surely someone has done this already.

Apple have! Hehe. However, for some reason, the functionality is only available when using iTunes with the iPod Shuffle. It's called AutoFill. So, the functionality is there, just not accessibly. The hope is that Apple will make it more easily accessibly in iTunes 5.

What you could also do (just thought about this) is make a playlist and put your entire library in there, then create a smart playlist, set the condition to be for songs in playlist "Entire Library", etc, and then tell it to randomly pick however many GBs of songs you want. Then just sync that one smart playlist with ya iPod.

I think www.ephpod.com does it as well, failing that have a search on the forums at www.ipodlounge.com as this is bound to have come up before.

The Party Shuffle is actually a playlist that is copied to your iPod, you could choose to synch ONLY the Party Shuffle list.
