I don't think Calvin ever referred to himself as "New Wave" in a now-dated attempt to be trendy. I think it was Hobbes, whose unselfconscious sombrero-wearing (actually, timeless kitsch rather than transient fashion) prompted a certain reaction from Calvin. <br> <br> In reply to Calvin's disgust, Hobbes said "Maybe I'm just New Wave" - to which the retort was, "Maybe you're just stupid".<br>
