I was shopping in Tescos the other day and I was horrified by the transpondification of the milk section. When I were a lad, there was milk. In bottles. With silver foil tops. The rich folk ont' hill might have had gold top but not for likes of us. But now not only is there skimmed, semiskimmed and ordinary, you can perm in organic, probiotic and even filtered. What the hell is filtered milk? How is it different? And then there is Night Milk, various super creamy forms and just other random stuff. Interestingly homogenised milk no longer seems to exist.

I believe the "normal" stuff in supermarkets is *all* homogenised - note the lack of cream in the top!

this has been made into an ad down here. customer asks for 'milk' -lady behind counter offers litany of choices, he replies "I just want ... milk" and she says "you want this one.." reaching for the

considering its made by one of the companies making the litanies of choices, its all very self-referentially ironic.

In some regions of Wyoming and Montana, it has been said, that filtered milk is collected in ones hat, then consumed. (From the male of the species.)

Well, I've been drinkin' milk cross-pond-ways for my whole life and have never seen that many choices.
We've got Whole, 2%, 1% , Skim( 0%), and Chocolate.
all Homogenized..........some come in organic.

Haven't seen a glass jar for 30 years for the most part. Did see some in Chicago in a glass bottle, but that was for people with more money than brains.

Night milk? Don't blame us! Sounds suspiciously like it might be one of your finer inventions. Righ after that yeast you spread on toast. Now THAT'S something to compare with ass.

Grits is food of the gods, my friend, grits.

Grits is OK - I don't know about it being the food of the gods, but I liked it (them?) when I tried it. (In New Orleans actually)

They sell glass-bottle milk in California still

Do not diss the Marmite!! Marmite is the food of the Gods. There is nothing finer. (I forgot to mention all the flavoured milks, but they sort of don't count)

filtered milk

I like the filtered milk. I think they strain all the bacteria out of it so it stays fresh for ages.
