Her period of greatest fame was in the 1930s, carrying over a bit into WWII, but I can see where she would have had absolutely no niche in British war-time pop culture at all.</p><p>Substitute Gracie Fields for Kate Smith and you'll have a close approximation. Similarly, Gracie Fields is mostly unknown in the US. <br /></p>
