Why are we always "in the grip of a recession" rather than just "in recession"?
"In the grip of a recession" is a convenient form of spin because it frames the recession as the 'enemy'. "In a recession" leaves us to wonder about who created the recession. "At the mercy of an industry full of money-grubbing chancers" seems to me to be most accurate.<br />
