Went to see the Michael McGoldrick band at the Sage, Gateshead last night. Very good players - he is a remarkable technician, but.....I was also disappointed. I wanted more spntaneity and the back line was just stodgy - roots and ffths bass, basic rock drumming. It needed subtlety. I enjoyed it all the same.
