Hmm, the Tabla Guru appears to be sitting with the drums the wrong way round. Either he is not a guru or nobody has checked the webpage.



Tabla's are normally played with the angle away from the player. This allows the finger to strick the rim as well as the head and creates a distinctive sound. As for which side the larger drum is on it is a matter of preference.

That's *not* what it says in all the sources I have looked at - everyone says that the tabla goes on the right. There is no reason why it has to be that way of course, except that tradition in these matters is pretty rigid. And I wouldn't have thought there was any dominant hand advantage to southpaws in shifting the drums either. I think the answer is that the picture is reversed.
