What do you do with old encyclopedias? I have full set of Brittanica from the 60s to get rid of and I really don't want to bin them, but have no use or space for them.

The Encyclopedia Brittanica is a great resource, no matter what year it was published. In fact, the older versions are much more informative than the newer ones. One edition, I think from 1911, is highly prized by historians for its trenchant contributions on most subjects (like an entry on relativity by Albert Einstein).

Unfortunately, most people believe intuitively that with encyclopedia sets--as with almanacs--newer is always better. And if you're going to go with newer, why not go digital?

Try urging your set on a college student you know. If he is a serious scholar, he will recognize their value.

One word: Ebay. Actually, someone is selling a 1967 set on Ebay right now. Or you could donate them to your local community theater, they're always on the lookout for props. Or your local historical society.

I'd give a second thought to binning them. They're too new to be interesting historically, too old to be a useful reference, and too large for anyone else to store.

Me me me!!
I'll have them!!!!
