Hmm, I once nearly got hospitalised eating a slush puppie (Irn Bru flavour too) - it was so cold I must have frozen some part of my insides - serious pain. I wonder if I could get research funding to go on a trip to Hawaii to investigate the phenomenon of shave(d) ice?

Yes, this is a growing phenomenon in the U.S. Similar to a snow-cone, but much finer. Very similar in texture to a snow ball with many flavored syrup toppings to choose from - they even have ones with alchohol! You find them at all of the neighborhood festival in my area (Chicago)

This wasn't brain freeze - I know that well. This was agonizing and incapacitating pain in the chest casued by too cold material passing down the tubes!!
