Now the Guardian is quoting me, though I am now a she.

"Spam Expert"? Is that a qualification you studied long and hard at? <br /> I'm becoming distressed at the amount of japanese langauge spam i'm recieving - i may have to learn to read the language just to decifer why it's all heading in my direction

You sure it's Japanese? There is a huge amount of Chinese spam around, but I haven't seen any Japanese. I filter on GB2312 in the subject line - catches most of it. I'm also getting hebrew, russian and turkish spam!

Lindsay

I seem to get getting a lot of russian spam at the moment... time to switch to my .mac email account for a while...?

be very wary of assigning any specific country to spam. we're finding that the asian Internet community is often blamed as being the overwhelming source of spam in the USA, when we believe its quite clear the origination of the spam lies with a quite small number of US companies who are exploiting insecure asian networks to source the spam, but the real beneficiary is still in the USA.
