I have to half inch this link to Tokyo and Osaka at night that was on SM - fabulous. The incandescent lighting is so much nicer than the sodium that we have.

Quite a startling difference. Does sodium lighting offer that much in terms of economy? I'd love to see Newcastle lit up like that!

Sodium lighting does have some advantages - it is pretty cheap and the bulbs last a long time. Incandescent would be terrribly light plluting - the new high intensity sodium lights are bright and much less light plluting.

Sodium lighting is cheaper per lumen (or so it has been suggested to me)

Hmm, many coffee bars and seedy 'joints'. Nice to see a portrayal of the usual Tokyo and Osaka highlights.
