Eugene Mirman - very very odd

"Eugene is going on tour with Yo La Tengo in swing states from September 27th.." now I understand about Yo La Tengo, I like their music, but what's a swing state? something to do with the election are Yo La Tengo and Eugene hoping to affect the outcome?

Swing states are states that could go either way in the election. Massachusetts, for example, is a waste of time for both candidates because everyone knows that Kerry is going to get their electoral votes (each state gets votes, with the exception of a few states whoever wins gets the votes for that state) ... Swing states could go either way, so Eugene Mirman (who I saw a few years ago and is very funny) and others are going to those states to try to convince people that they need to get out and vote for Kerry (probably more of that than trying to change people's minds about voting for Bush. With voter turnout very low, mobilizing voters is a very effective strategy in these swing states.
