Bony disc like an antler instead of roots like a tooth. Looks like a deer antler to me. Go figure, a deer anlet on a dead deer!

John Weeks

Have to agree that it looks like an antler to me too.

Undoubtedly a polished (and slightly doctored) muntjac (sika deer) antler. More interesting than Nessie is the fact that the muntjac has huge fangs. (See link) <A href="http://www.skullsite.co.uk/Muntjac/muntjacM_lat.jpg"><a href="http://www.skullsite.co.uk/Muntjac/muntjacM_lat.jpg</A>">http://www.skullsite.co.uk/Muntjac/muntjacM_lat.jpg</A></a>

Just realized that what probably happened is that they found the deer just as they said and took the antler, doctored it, and then returned to the scene. (Notice the distinct lack of any sort of staining on the "tooth". Hardly likely if it had been just used to kill a deer.) It is not unheard of for battling deer to become entangled, or stuck to one another. In this case, the deer which lost the antler probably gored the other and in the process embedded its antler in the rib, just as described. Whether this killed the gored deer is irrelevant as the first deer would have used its hooves to very vigorously attempt to free itself. This would account for the bloody mess found by the hoaxters, and is not at all unheard of in the deer world.

Or i could infact be a studio mock up for the new lochness film that comes out later this year

I don't know, those guys were pretty believable. Maybe even as believable as the bangbus folks!

KC

KC, that was TMI! @_@

To entertain the idea that it could remotely be true in the first place is rather a waste of effort, n'est pas?<br> <br> I'm not saying there aren't such things as bigfoot, sea serpents, etc, just that there isn't a Nessie.

toothsome hoaxes

i like the detail - for instance, that 'their' local (amazing what you can buy in inverness these days it would seem) told them there were no bears 'in' loch ness. no, dears, not since some time around the tenth century... <br> <br> it looks exactly like a small antler to me, and one polished for display at that.<br> <br> still, it would be nice if they later shared their offers of help with us (all names obscured, naturally)
