Holy shit, Batman!

ang

That was a black day in Oklahoma City. We get a lot of tornadoes, even in the metro area, but that one was so powerful that typical safety measures (take shelter in an windowless, inside room on the lowest level, lay in a bathtub with a matress over it, etc.) were useless. You had to be underground to survive a direct hit by that monster. It left nothing but the foundation of any structure it hit head-on, and since it was a quarter-mile wide when it went through town, it hit a lot of structures. I now have an underground concrete hidey hole topped with a sliding steel door in the floor of my garage, as do a lot of people here in Tornado Alley. It gives me great peace of mind every spring when the wall clouds roll in.
