Daughter's verdict on the new HP, which she read last night : "one of the worst books I have ever read"
we're now intrigued - did daughter like the others?

Decreasingly from the first one. She read this one just to find out what happened having read all the others.

...as to why such a negative reaction? If the latest HP is the worst book that she has ever read, then she's lucky. I'm pretty sure that there are far worse things out there and that, as she gets older, she's bound to stumble across some of them (unless she's a very light reader)!

Of course, it's not high literature (and never will be) and it's been mercilessly over-hyped. But it's still a fairly fun book - even if it does drag a bit in the middle and get a bit predictable in places. It falls into that category of book/film/etc. that I usually call "mental floss" (referring there to its candy-floss like nature rather than its ability to clean out any awkward little gaps in your brain).
