RIP Gary Moore

Sad news indeed.

COLOGNE, Germany – Irish hard rockers Thin Lizzy paid tribute to former band member Gary Moore in Vienna last night the only way they know how: by turning it up to 11.

The band dedicated the concert at the Vienna Arena Sunday night to Moore, who died over the weekend in a Spanish hotel room.

"I can't believe he's gone," said drummer Brian Downey, the only founding member of Thin Lizzy still with the band. Guitarist Scott Gorham, who took over after Moore left the band in 1974, said it was "an honor to have stood on the same stage with him."

Moore was found dead Sunday in a luxury hotel on Spain's Costa del Sol. The circumstances surrounding his death are still unclear. Spanish authorities quoted in the local media said there was no indication of foul play. An autopsy is currently underway.

British tabloid The Sun quoted an "ambulance source" in Spain that speculated Moore had been "drinking heavily" on the night before his death, leading the paper to suggest he passed out and choked on his own vomit.
