I read, this morning, about the Pontine sea-fart but the Internet fails me with any more details. Pontus is the ancient name for the Black sea and the sea-fart was an eruption of gas from the sea bed that killed everyone on the surface. I have no idea what the proper name for this phenomenon is so it's hard to locate. It sounds similar to something that was described in Fortean Times a while ago where huge gas bubbles could sink ships because they just destroy any flotation.

I was talking to a friend who is a naval architect about efficiency and scheduling in shipyards. There is some measure which is to do with tons and hours and he was recently at a conference in the USA where the American guy s were really pleased with having a number like 105 for this measure. The Korean value is 8.... Neport News shipyards emplyoys 18000 people! Most shipyards count their staff in hundreds. What do they all do? (Work scheduling says Richard) This is all to do with some US law called the Jones act which basically seems to say that if you are building ships for the navy you can take as long as you want and make as much profit as you want. (I am sure it is more complicated than that)

I really like the new version of Lady Marmalade by Christian Aguilera, Pink, Lil' Kim and Maya - infinitely better than the wet version by the All saints, though it still doesn't have the magic of the original La Belle version to me. The video however is awful, a sad attempt to do raunch that fails miserably. It manages to be offensive without having any redemming sexiness. I suppose if you are turned on by complicated underwear you might like it, but to me it's just whores with hearts of gold cliché cheesiness.

One of the things that I have on this site is a page about the "Paul is Dead" story.Someone just sent me this excellent new adition to the evidence: "First take either the (Sergeant Pepper) album LP cover or CD cover and look for the drum. Notice the letters lonely hearts. Place the edge of a butter knife or mirror across the center of the letters reading HEARTS and it will read "HE ^ DIE" pointing straight up to Paul." Good weekend (apart from sick daughter). Got lots of stuff planted in the garden and double dug one of our deep beds again. There is asparagus showing through and loads of frogs in the pond still. Penny washed some pond plants to take to a friend and about 30 leeches washed off them - it always puzzles me how something like a leech gets into a built pond!
